If arriving by plane . . .
Our address is Privada de San Juan de Dios #2. There is no bus service from the Guanajuato/León airport, so you'll need to take a cab. There's a counter inside the airport terminal where you tell them your destination and make the payment; last we heard, it's about 350 pesos for the 30-to-40-minute ride. By the way, it's not customary to tip your cabdriver in Mexico unless you've got tons of luggage or he performs some special service.
Tell the driver you want the callejón San Juan de Dios in the Presa neighborhood of Guanajuato. Some of the airport cabbies don't know Guanajuato well, so you may have to play navigator. Once you get to the outskirts of Guanajuato, there are now
two roads that lead to the Presa neighborhood, and there's no way to know which
of the two your driver will choose. If he takes the old road, you'll go through
three tunnels; if the new road, you'll go through only one tunnel. In either
case, after exiting the third or only tunnel he should turn right onto a main
street called Paseo de la Presa. He should then take the very first right turn
he can, onto the callejón San Juan de Dios.
After turning right onto San Juan de Dios, you drive uphill. This is the point
where some people get lost. That’s because, as you drive up the callejón San
Juan de Dios, you’ll see not one but two dead-end side streets, both
named Privada de San Juan de Dios. You come to the first Privada
almost immediately; it’s a turnoff to the right with several parked cars. Be
careful not to stop there but instead keep going straight uphill a couple of
hundred meters until you come to a long hairpin turn. In the middle of the
hairpin, on the left side, is the entrance to the second Privada.
There is a black wrought-iron gate there, usually open. Our house is straight
ahead inside the Privada. It’s a two-story pink house with a tall, narrow
window high on the left side. The apartment is behind the house, but ring the
bell at our front door in order to find us. Our phone number is 731-0679.
This is much easier than it sounds, we swear.
Finally, if you haven't already done so, please send us an
e-mail with your approximate time of arrival so that we can be sure to be home
to welcome you.
Good luck and buen viaje.
